As a first generation college student our founder, Linda V. Fuentes found herself walking through Sacramento State University as a new student thinking “where do I fit in?” With a sense of responsibility to answer this calling, she began to organize and recruit to establish an organization that would encompass a support network for all women. The first year she recruited 26 founding mothers. Lambda Sigma Gamma Sorority became a reality on October 24, 1986. Our 27 Founding Mothers realized that the campus did not offer an organization that met the needs of women from minority backgrounds. They were interested in forming an organization that would not only act as a family away from home, but that would also bring together women from various backgrounds and incorporate the principles of self improvement, scholastic excellence, and civic responsibility.
Lambda Sigma Gamma Sorority, Incorporated is an academic, social, and multicultural sorority. We are a solid network of women in higher education, who have chosen to unite in order to enhance our college and experience. We provide our members a family away from home and strong support system to facilitate the retention of motivated students. Through the support its’ members offer each other, Lambda Sigma Gamma Sorority, Inc. has developed a strong, safe and loving environment where friendships grow, characters build, knowledge is shared, and a multicultural sisterhood is created.
